Nell's Circus Diary

Photograph: Sir Peter Blake visiting Nell

At the end of May I received the most difficult news that I have secondary breast cancer. If you've had primary cancer this is what you dread to hear. From an initial grim prognosis, I've been working with the most amazing team of physicians and oncologists as I thoroughly intend to be here for years and decades to come.

This is the reason why I'm not doing all of the shows, which I'm sure you'll understand. I am continuing to travel with the circus and doing some shows with the children when I can.

I am doing a lot of painting in our 'art tent' and artist Greg Smart, cousin of Yasmine, has been visiting us to sketch. We are planning a 'pop up' art sale at the end of the tour when we return to Fennells Farm near Stroud on the 29th & 30th September of both Greg's and my paintings.

Everyday I am moved to tears about how extraordinary the circus company are and how cheerful, committed and unflagging they are.

The show must go on and next week we're looking forward to visiting Windsor Great Park, a new ground for us, so if you haven't seen the show yet do book your tickets

Much love,

Nell
