Let us introduce you to our dashing director Cal McCrystal who returns to Giffords Circus for his seventh consecutive year to direct My Beautiful Circus.

Born in Belfast, Cal trained at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama and at Ecole Philippe Gaulier. As an actor he has worked extensively in Theatre, TV, Film and Radio. As a writer/director his productions are regularly seen worldwide, his recent production of Iolanthe for the English National Opera opened to rave reviews and enjoyed a sold out run at the London Coliseum. He was Comedy Director for the Royal National Theatre's award-winning West End and Broadway hit show One Man, Two Guvnors and for the Royal Shakespeare Company's Don Quixote. Cal directed the original Mighty Boosh stage shows, winning a Perrier Award, and directed Noel Fielding's recent international tour. An Evening With Noel Fielding.

Cal's first opera production of Haydn's II Mondo Della Luna for the English Touring Opera was nominated for a Manchester Theatre Award for Best Production. He directed the acclaimed comedy routines in Cirque du Soleil's touring circus, Varekai, and for their erotic cabaret, Zumanity: Another Side of Cirque du Soleil, now enjoying its 15th successful year in Las Vegas.

He has directed many productions for British repertory theatres and created countless international touring shows working regularly for companies such as Peepolykus. The Comedians Theatre Company and the celebrated British clown troupe Spymonkey. His debut film, The Bubonic Play, received its premiere at the London Comedy Film Festival in January 2015 and he works recurrently as a comedy consultant for the movie industry here and in the US. Films include The Dictator, The Worlds End, Man Up, The Nice Guys, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (in which he also appears as Principal Conway), Paddington and Paddington 2 (in which he also appears).
