Lance The Night Away

Posted by Sas McMorrine, on 23 April 2010

The big top is up and awaiting the Artists to arrive and fill it. It is always to exciting to see the tent go up for the first time, to see its bare bones and imagine it full of people and to know that it is going to be such a huge part of life for the next 6 months.

The sawdust is down and as you walk around Folly Farm you are hit with gusts of music blowing out of the tent.

The biggest news is that Lance Edwards will be returning to be head chef for Circus Sauce this year. He has swapped the circus ring for a gas ring this year and will be cooking up a storm through out the summer, using fresh home grown herbs and vegetables from Folly Farm. To make a real night of it stay for an evening meal, you can eat beautiful food and chat to some of the Artists, do book ahead to avoid disappointment. Booking Office 0845 459 7469.

There has been an other arrival at the farm, Nells horse Red is back, and hunkier than ever. He will be making an appearance this year again and is settling back into stardom very well.

Spring into Action

The biggest news from Folly Farm this year is the arrival of Nell and Totis new babies Red and Cecil, born on the 7th of January, they are beautiful, healthy, happy and have settled in well.

Before the wagons move out to their first sight, Folly Farm is preparing for artists to arrive and rehearsals to start. Horses are being trained, even Brian (the goose) is training the two ducks to 'think goose, be goose.'

As usual the first wave of artists to come to Folly were welcomed by Brians vigorous meet and greet policy. Well, I suppose it is beneficial to realize a trombone can double up as a great goose shield!

Always one step ahead the musicians have already been involved in workshops. Some have returned from last tours 'La Fan Fare' and others have newly joined. The workshops take place in Notgrove Community Hall, where Sarah Llewellyn (musical Director) and Barry Grantham (Music and Dance Expert) work on music, dance and comedy.

Eclipse, her daughter Joplin and the two shire horses Full House and High Card have been turned out, tuned in and rocked up over the winter. Eclipse "just can't wait for summer daaarling!" When things will not be so hard on her waistline!

The rest of the performers are due to arrive when the rehearsals start on the 19th of April. It will not be long before the big top is up and Nells imagination is put to life....
